English Title Elements

The elements include:

  1. List of authors. Name of the author(s) shall be written in full and comma separated. Initials shall be put in front of the surnames, each followed by a full stop and space. Initials shall not be separated from the surname.
  2. Authors’ workplace. It is necessary to make sure in proper spelling (in line with the corporate charter) of its name in English. The name translation shall be possible in case the English name is not available in its charter. In case the authors have different workplaces, the list of authors working at the same place shall be followed by the name of the employer. Then the list of authors working at another place is provided followed by the name of the employer, etc.
  3. Title (translation of the title given ahead of the text).
  4. Summary of the article not exceeding 0.5 p. summarizing setting of the problem, methods used for its solution, the results obtained. References to the figures and tables provided in the text part shall be acceptable.
  5. Abstract (translation of the abstract provided ahead of the text).
  6. Key words (translation of the list of key words given ahead of the text).

Each title element shall begin a new line.

Formula Layout

Formulas shall be compiled with the use of MathType formula editor. Only the formulas referred to in the text of the article shall be numbered. The use of letters and other symbols in numbering is not acceptable.

As a rule, formulas are justified in a separate line. In the text, only single-line formulas are acceptable without any references (superior and inferior characters in such formulas are acceptable).

Formulas justified in a separate line are centered. The number (if necessary) is parenthesized and aligned flush right.

It shall be necessary to use the following formula editor settings. Font size: "full" 10.5 pt, "inferior" 9 pt, "sub-inferior" 7 pt, "symbol" 14.5 pt, "sub-symbol" 12.5 pt. Styles: text, function, number, Cyrillic alphabet - "Times New Roman", matrix vector – "Times New Roman", bold; Greek small letter, Greek capital letter, symbol – "Symbol" font, Roman script; variable –"Times New Roman", italics. Indices having the form of, word reductions or abbreviations shall be set up in Roman script only.

Brackets and signs of mathematical operations shall be entered with the use of MathType formula editor templates.

Typeface of the symbols in formulas and in the text part shall be absolutely identical. All designations encountered in the formula for the first time shall be deciphered immediately next to the formula. The formula is followed by the comma and the next line that is set flush after the word “where” shall contain all the symbols and their explanations in hyphenated form.  The list shall be made in the order of symbol appearance in the formula. In multiline formulas first of all the full description of numerator is provided and then denominator is described. The index change shall be also considered as a new symbol requiring new explanation.

In case during deciphering there appears a symbol that in its turn requires  formula representation and deciphering it shall be treated as a separate formula but its explanation shall be parenthesized.

Figure Layout

Figures representing graphs, charts, etc. shall be executed in graphic vector editors (built-in editors Microsoft Word, CorelDraw, Microsoft Visio, etc.) in black and white. The use of bitmap format (.bmp, .jpeg, .tiff, .html) shall be acceptable only for the figures that are impossible to represent in vector format (photographs, screenshots, etc.). Figures and photographs resolution  shall be at least 300 dpi.

The figure field shall have only the figure itself and its numeric and topical headings. Under the figure there shall be the numerical heading and via dot the topical one. The line (lines) containing headings shall be centered relative to the figure.  Hyphenation in this field is not acceptable.

The description of the figure itself and its legend shall be provided in the text part of the article.

Each figure together with its heading shall be placed in the text field or object field (in terms of Microsoft Word).

It is required to tend to the width of the figure to make up 16.5 or 7.9 cm (inside or dressed).

Letter designations of the figure fragments ("Times New Roman", italics, 9 pt) shall be put under the fragment ahead of the numerical heading. In the text the reference to the fragment shall be given after the numerical heading separated by a comma (e.g., fig. 1, a).

The figure shall be given in the nearest possible place after the first reference to it or its first fragment in the text. The first reference to the figure shall be given as, for example, (fig. 3) and the following ones as (ref. fig. 3).

The base lines in the figures (block borders and connecting lines in charts, graph lines) have the width of 1 pt and the auxiliary ones (footnotes, axes, dimensional lines) have the width of 0.6 pt.

While formatting a figure representing a chart it shall be necessary to keep up with the requirements of GOST, ESKD, ESPD (in particular, it is unacceptable to use graphic symbols complying with the standards of the USA and Europe but not complying with the ones specified in GOST).

In the figures representing dependence graphs, the dimension grid should not be made. Only notches at the axes should be marked, each of them being digitized (i.e. each notch shall have corresponding specific numeric value).

In case the axes in the figures are digitized, they shall terminate at the position of one of the notches where the notch shall not be put and instead of numeric values the name of variable and (separated by a comma) a unit of measurement shall be given.  In case the axes are not digitized, they shall terminate with arrows next to which the names of variables with no units of measurement are given.

The notch length and width shall be set in such a way that there would be no empty space in the figure, i.e. each notch shall digitize at least some points of the curves given.

All the text fragments and symbols in the figure shall be made in "Times New Roman", font size  9 pt with a single line spacing. Numerical and letter designations of the fragments and numerical title shall be put in italics.

If necessary, it is possible to place symbols and texts performed in formula editor into some text fields. In this case the following editor settings shall be used: sizes - "full" 9 pt, "subindex" 7 pt, "sub-subindex" 5.5 pt, "symbol" 13 pt, "subsymbol" 11 pt.

References to the figure legend in the text part shall be given in the same style (Roman script or italics) as in the figure but with the font size of 10.5 pt, corresponding to the text part size.

Table Layout

Text in tables shall be typed with a single line space, "Times New Roman". The text part shall be typed with the size of 9 pt, indices – 7 pt, sub-indices – 5.5 pt.

Table shall include the following elements: numeric and topical headings, heading containing column headings (clarifying data values in the columns), stub column (the first column on the left) and body of the table (all the other columns of the table).

Numeric heading includes the word “Table” and its number written in Arabic numerals (without a number sign in front of them, without a full stop at the end, with right alignment, with heading written in light italics). Thematic heading shall be given on the next line (center alignment, bold; no full stop in the end). Reference to the table inside the text shall be formatted the same way as the references to figures. Tables numeration shall be continuous within the article. In case the table is the only one, no numeric heading is required and the reference to it is given as “see the table”.

Above the table breakover there shall be given a heading “Breakover. Table 5” (in case the table is not finished on the page) or “Ending. Table 5” (in case the table is finished on the page). In case the table takes more than one page, its heading shall be given on each page.

No table elements shall be left empty.

The headings shall be written without random abbreviations (only common abbreviations of all kinds are acceptable: graphic abbreviations, alphabetic acronym, and abridgements). Plural shall be used only when indexes of a column are in plural form.

In one line head spaces all headings shall be written with a capital letter. In two- and multiple line head spaces the upper line headings shall be written with a capital letter, headings of the second, third, etc. lines shall be written with a capital letter if they are not grammatically subordinated to the upper line heading, and with a small letter if they are grammatically subordinated to it.
